40 years ago, the Plaimont project was seen as a slightly crazy ideal. Today, it is a reality, comfortably set in the midst of the Gascogne region in France and boasting both national and international recognition. As a leader of Southwestern French wines, the Union of Plaimont winemakers distinguishes itself by: - its commitment to the preservation and defense of autochthonous grape varieties - its innovative work in ampelographic research – the creation of “cuvées emblématiques” produced in the main Pyrenean Piemont appellations - the value it sets on the enhancement of the region’s cultural heritage and wine tourism - innovation as an answer to environmental issues.
Today, Plaimont and its winemakers have set themselves new challenges, with the common objective to continue defending and enhancing their terroir. Innovative and respectful viticulture processes, a strong engagement in local events and the anticipation of the big changes to come in the future are key factors to achieve this objective. In 1979, the three wineries of Plaisance, Aignan and Saint Mont join forces and initials ("PL" for Plaisance, "AI" for Aignan, "Mont" for Saint Mont) to create the union of Plaimont cooperatives. Since its creation, Plaimont has incorporated the most beautiful chateaux and wine estates of the region in order to rebuild emblematic vineyards and develop the collective with renewed ambition.
The Cave de Condom, Château de Sabazan, Château Saint-Go, Château Bascou, The Monastry of Saint-Mont, Château Arricau-Bordes and Château de Cassaigne also joined Plaimont to be part of its development. Today, Plaimont accounts for 98% of the Saint Mont appellation, 55% of the Madiran appellation, two-thirds of the AOC Pacherenc de Vic-Bilh and 30% of the Côtes-de-Gascogne IGP. In just a few years, Plaimont has become a key player in Southwestern wines.
